What is the role of the SGA (Student Government Association)?

THE SGA or student council helps share students’ ideas, interests, and concerns with teachers and school principals. They often also help raise funds for school-wide activities, including social events, community projects, helping people in need and school reform. Most schools participate in food drives, fundraisers and parties. Members learn skills that were an extension of their formal education. They also engage in environmental projects.

The SGA and student council often serve to engage students in learning about democracy and leadership.

The SGA at Odenville Middle School Participates in:

  • Morning Announcements
  • Set up for and has leadership role in Awards Day and events
  • Back to school registration and orientation
  • Attend Leadership Conferences: District Leadership Conference at JSU; ASCA, State Student Council Conference at the University of Alabama and SASC, Southern Association of Student Councils Conference in Miami, Florida 2021

Select members of the SGA will have the opportunity to participate in a leadership enrichment class that meets daily to plan and prepare for competition and various projects. JSU Leadership Day will take place in 2020. Twelve delegates will attend SASC (Southern Association of Student Council’s) October 2020 in Miami, Florida. The state conference will be held at the University of Alabama in the spring of 2020.
